Legislative Republicans Send Letter to DHS Secretary: Demand Halt to the Operation of Abortion Facilities in Wisconsin

LEGISLATIVE REPUBLICANS SEND LETTER TO DHS SECRETARY: DEMAND HALT TO THE OPERATION OF ABORTION FACILITIES IN WISCONSIN

By Matt Sande, Pro-Life Wisconsin Legislative Director

Led by Senator André Jacque (R-De Pere), 31 Republican state lawmakers sent a letter to Department of Health Services (DHS) Secretary-designee Andrea Palm demanding her immediate action to “ensure a halt to the operation of abortion facilities in Wisconsin for the duration of the declared public health emergency.” The letter states that “abortion clinics are continuing to operate in Wisconsin, needlessly exposing people to the potential to contract COVID-19 and using precious medical resources that are needed elsewhere to save Wisconsinites. It is deeply disturbing to find out that many lower risk businesses have been shuttered while you have given Wisconsin’s abortion clinics special dispensation to remain in operation.”

Led by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Burlington), 60 Republican state representatives sent a letter to Governor Evers strongly opposing “classifying abortion providers, such as Planned Parenthood, as an essential service” and stating that it is “unconscionable that you would allow these (abortion) facilities to continue to operate. The PPE should be conserved for those frontline healthcare workers battling COVID 19, many of whom are asked to reuse the same mask for days.” The letter insists that no federal stimulus money go directly or indirectly to abortion providers.

Pro-Life Wisconsin thanks Senator Jacque and Assembly Speaker Vos and their fellow signatories for their courage and commitment to saving lives, born and unborn, during this pandemic.

On March 24, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers issued Emergency Order #12, Safer at Home Order, which states that “the number of people needing medical care due to COVID-19 will significantly exceed the amount of available healthcare resources (and)…the entire State of Wisconsin - including residents, businesses, community organizations, and government - need to take all possible actions to reduce further spread of COVID-19 to save lives.”

Because the order does not specifically exclude abortion providers as non-essential healthcare operators, Wisconsin's surgical and chemical abortion facilities have been allowed to continue killing preborn children with impunity.

Please sign this urgent petition today, and tell Governor Evers that he must SHUT DOWN all abortion facilities in Wisconsin during this state emergency.

Abortion is not healthcare, and it certainly is not "essential" healthcare. It is an elective procedure that kills innocent preborn human beings, uses up scarce medical resources in this time of crisis, and contributes to the community spread of COVID-19.

After signing, please contact Governor Evers' state capitol office by phone at (608) 266-1212, by email at [email protected], or on their website HERE.

Thank you to all those who have already contacted Governor Evers! Please share this with your friends and family and encourage them to sign the petition.
