Christian School Includes Preborn in Ornament Submissions for the Wisconsin Capitol Christmas Tree

By Anna DeMeuse, Pro-Life Wisconsin Communications Director

This year the Wisconsin Capitol Christmas Tree was dubbed the “Holiday Tree” by Governor Tony Evers, and on Friday, November 8, 2019 Evers announced that the theme of the tree would be “Celebrate Science.” Wisconsin students were asked to create themed ornaments for the tree and send them to the capitol to be displayed throughout the season. One local Christian school got creative.

Bethlehem Lutheran School in Sheboygan, Wisconsin decided to send a clear message to the governor about the true meaning of the season and science no less. In a Facebook post on Sunday, December 8th, Bethlehem Lutheran School displayed their creations, saying, “The fifth and sixth graders helped create some science and faith based ornaments for the Capitol Tree this year. Theirs were among thousands from other schools throughout the state. If you’re in Madison, be sure to check it out, it’s pretty awesome!”

Images show the handmade ornaments proudly hanging on the Capitol Tree. Among them are cut out elements from the periodic table spelling “Merry Christmas” and colorful depictions of preborn babies which read “Life begins at conception. It’s Science.”

While Governor Evers seeks to secularize Christmas and increase funding to Planned Parenthood, the state’s largest abortion provider, these creative students surely sent a message!

Pam Carlson-Gugel, Bethlehem Lutheran School’s Art Teacher says, “This Christmas season is all about celebrating God made flesh in the form of a baby to save us from our sins. With Governor Evers choosing ‘science’ as the theme for this year’s Capitol Christmas tree, my fifth and sixth-grade students and I thought it would be a good idea to share the increasing science consensus that an unborn baby is a life from the moment of conception.”

At the moment the sperm and egg combine to form a new human being, that child already carries as much genetic information as 50 sets of a 33-volume encyclopedia! As early as the sixth day, the tiny human being implants in the mother’s uterus and his or her cells are already differentiating to perform specific functions - circulatory, muscular, neural, and skeletal. “We hope this will be a positive witness as we fight to protect life in the womb, and we thank the administration for including these ornaments on the tree,” says Carlson-Gugel.

Thank you to Bethlehem Lutheran School and their fifth and sixth grade students for keeping Christ in Christmas and recognizing the humanity of the preborn child!
