Looking Back on Pro-Life Wisconsin's Fall Gathering

Last Tuesday, Pro-Life Wisconsin and our local affiliate, Price County Respect Life, gathered with 40 pro-lifers in the Northwoods of Wisconsin for our inaugural Fall Gathering. We came together at Burgers Bar and Grill in Phillips, WI, to enjoy pro-life company, food and drink, educate on the life issues, and honor Wisconsin State Senator Romaine Quinn (R-Cameron) as Pro-Life Wisconsin’s 2024 Legislator of the Year.

The evening featured time for fellowship, presentations on the work of Pro-Life Wisconsin (PLW) and our local affiliate group, Price County Respect Life, headed by Patti McCormick (Phillips). We also heard about the incredible work that is being done by Abiding Care pregnancy resource center in Medford, WI. Abiding Care fills a huge gap in pregnancy care in the Northwoods, as it’s the only pregnancy resource center within a 30 mile/1 hour radius for that area of the state.

Towards the end of our gathering, PLW Legislative Director Matt Sande had the honor of presenting Senator Quinn with PLW’s Legislator of the Year Award in recognition of his work in passing the Embrace Them Both Bill Package through the State Senate. Sadly, these life-affirming bills were shot down in the State Assembly. The bills would have:

  • Clarified that emergency medical procedures during pregnancy that are intended to save the life of the mother and cause the death of the child are NOT abortions (Senate Bill 343)

  • Increased tax exemptions for dependents and extended these exemptions to parents of a preborn child whose fetal heartbeat has been detected (Senate Bill 344)

  • Provided an annual $1 million grant to Choose Life Wisconsin, Inc. to fund pregnancy resource centers (Senate Bill 345)

  • Provided $10,000 to each Wisconsin couples adopting a Wisconsin child to help defray the cost of adoption (Senate Bill 346)

Senator Quinn told those gathered that these bills showed “We’re not just pro-baby, we’re pro-mom, we’re pro-family. We’re pro-child inside of the womb and outside of the womb.” He then showed how reasonable these bills were, but how hard it still was to find bipartisan support. He reassured those gathered that he was not giving up on advocating for the pro-life cause, saying “I would rather lose my election than ever waiver on this issue.”

Thank you to State Senator Romaine Quinn for your brave leadership for the pro-life movement in our state legislature. Congratulations! And thank you to all who came out to celebrate life with us!
